Art & transformation

From science to creation. Antonella Quacchia explores the beauty of fractures and art as a living territory of memory, emotion and new horizons.

Published interview · The beauty of fractures · English translation · pp. 15–16

GBM: Your story crosses continents and fractures. How does that journey become art?

My life began on a physical and emotional border. Abandonment, silence and displacement shaped my identity. In time I discovered that those fractures could open horizons: spaces of possibility, reinvention and new ways of seeing. My work grows from that inner transformation, where what was once a rupture becomes an opening.

GBM: How does your scientific career connect with your artistic practice?

My scientific career, from CERN to the ILO, taught me that reality has many truths. In my work I transform different materials to reveal that complexity: layers in dialogue, fractures becoming horizons.

GBM: What does Barcelona represent for you?

Barcelona holds memory on every corner: its paving tiles, markets and light. I collect urban fragments and turn them into stories about identity, the sea and movement. The city offers an emotional geography in which my own layers resonate.

GBM: What projects are coming, and how can the GLAM community experience your work?

After an artist residency at Joan Barbarà’s historic Studio46, I am developing a new series where abstract landscapes fill with symbols and inner traces. I am also preparing exhibitions in Udine, London, Bologna and Trieste. For the GLAM community, I offer private, exclusive visits to my Barcelona atelier: an intimate experience of discovering my works where they are created.
